What is NoMoReAMR?
NoMoReAMR is a NordForsk-funded collaborative initiative promoting integrated One Health research across the Nordic region. The project aims to serve as a model for cross-border AMR/AMU surveillance worldwide. See Roadmap for our vision.
Through NoMoReAMR, weโre mapping the surveillance systems, key institutions, data sources, and challenges involved in monitoring Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Antimicrobial Use (AMU) in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. It is built on the One Health principle - recognising that human, animal, and environmental health are interconnected.
About nomoreamr.org
nomoreamr.org is a comprehensive knowledge base on AMR and AMU surveillance across the Nordic countries.
Surveillance Programmes
Each Nordic country operates a national surveillance programme that monitors AMR and AMU across human, animal, and food sectors:
| Country | Programme | Key Entities |
|---|---|---|
| Denmark | DANMAP | SSI, DTU Food, DVFA, DHDA, DK-Vet |
| Finland | FINRES-Vet | THL, Fimea, Ruokavirasto |
| Iceland | Icelandic AMR-AMU Report | Directorate of Health, MAST |
| Norway | NORM-Vet | NIPH, NVI, UNN, NFSA |
| Sweden | Swedres-Svarm | PHAS, SVA, eHealth Agency, SBA |
Roadmap & Vision
Our Roadmap outlines the path toward integrated One Health AMR/AMU surveillance in the Nordic region, including:
- Recommendations for harmonised data collection and sharing
- A vision of decentralised data collection with centralised insight
- Legal and Ethical Considerations around cross-border data sharing and GDPR
Challenges
Integrating surveillance across Nordic borders faces several key challenges:
- Reporting of Aggregated Data - Loss of granularity when only summaries are shared
- AST Reporting - Susceptibility testing results losing quantitative detail
- Clinical Isolate-Diagnosis Link - Disconnection between lab results and patient records
- Real-Time Data Sharing - Delays in cross-border data exchange
- Sampling Bias - Overrepresentation of hospital data vs. community data
See Challenges to Integrated Surveillance for a full analysis and proposed solutions.
Data Sources
The Nordic countries generate extensive data relevant to AMR surveillance:
- Human AMR Surveillance - Clinical microbiology labs, national registries, prescription databases
- Animal and Food AMR Surveillance - Farm, slaughterhouse, and food product monitoring
- Environmental AMR Surveillance - Wastewater treatment plants, water quality monitoring
- AMU Surveillance - Antibiotic sales data, prescription registers, wholesale statistics
- Secondary Data Sources - Genomic databases, socio-economic registries, cohort studies

This knowledge base documents 18 key institutions across five countries that are involved in AMR/AMU surveillance. Browse by country:

How to Contribute
This is an open knowledge base. See Contributing for guidelines on adding or updating content - whether youโre adding a new entity, updating surveillance data, or improving descriptions.
